Curatorial Perspective | Dexter Wimberly
“I love art that reflects our times, and I am excited to be in the position to work with artists who are shaping contemporary culture and bringing the beauty of under-exposed aspects of modern life to a greater public. It’s important to me to work within contemporary urban history and this means maintaining a critical dialogue with emerging artists, especially those of African descent. As a curator today, I am not confined to the rules of the traditional art academic establishments that have been put in place; instead, I seek to identify interactions and experiences between art and culture. The school of curatorial practice that I subscribe to involves inventing a new vocabulary and transforming the ways of exhibiting - something that ifso, what? is doing as well - and I am excited to be a part of such an innovative fair concept.”
